We live and work for natural surface singletrack trails and the people who build them. When we’re not riding, running, hiking, advocating for, or working on trails, we’re making tools to make trails.
We believe trail work and everything that enables trails should be done right and continuously for the sake of trail users and the health and wild beauty of the places they serve.
We help the world’s most dedicated trail-builders craft and care for the trails they love by making tools that are pleasant to use and sturdy enough to be passed down to future generations of trail-builders.

Bill HasenjaegerBossAs a life-long user, maker, and lover of all things trails, I'm happy and grateful to be able to operate Trail Boss. Its a pleasure working with our awesome crew and interacting with 100's of dedicated and inspiring trail nerd customers. Every day we try to build the best trail building tools we can. And we get to hike and ride on trails built by our tools and our customers. That's as good as it gets. Favorite Tool Feature: The Trail Boss McLeod. Its narrower profile and flat tamping surface makes it a good all-rounder, especially for our local area. Favorite Build: British Army (WA, DNR), Paradise Royale, Kings Range (CA, BLM). |
Alec BarteeOperational InstigatorHi, I'm Alec from Trail Boss. I like to make things; trail things, tool things, company things. I'm a Bellingham native who loves digging here and operating Trail Boss with amazing colleagues who are really my dear friends. Get out there, dig, and ride it. Favorite Tool Feature: The Hoe/Rake Slim. I built 90% of a trail project I just finished with it. But you can do that kind of thing in the PNW. Favorite Build: (Local) Dadbod/Lovehandle on Galbraith. Tim DavenportBrand ManagerIn human history, packable handtools have been a failed business category. They've been unpleasant to use and fail quickly. That is, until Trail Boss arrived in 2011. For me, that past 12 have been a thoroughly life-enriching experience. I love this staff and the quality of our products. What's more, our customers are the world's best type of people. Favorite Tool Feature: It's got to be the face-mounted coupling themselves. Easy to use, and all but unbreakable. Favorite Build: Un-named running and riding trails in and around Bellingham. |
Kyle BowmanHead of ProductionAfter years of working on trail projects and wishing I had a Trail Boss, I finally got to try one at a Trans-Cascadia work party in 2018. Shortly after, I bought a set—and a couple of years later, I found myself working here. I feel lucky to be surrounded by three awesome teammates and a community of incredible customers, many of whom we’re fortunate to call friends. Favorite Tool Feature: I'm a big fan of the 4-piece handle with the 12" segments. They fit perfectly into the outer pockets of the Dakine Builder Pack and stow easily in smaller packs, too. Paired with the Hoe-Rake, a saw, and some loppers, you’ve got everything you need to get the job done. Favorite Build: Basalt Ridge (Plain, WA) , various trails in the Santa Cruz Mountains |
